our trip to the mall...

In Jordan's 3 year old class, she'll start going to PE once a week. The kids have to wear tennis shoes because of all the things they'll be doing. I've been looking forward to this and dreading this all at the same time since Jordan started wearing her Crocs EVERY day since Easter! Don't get me wrong, I love Crocs. Jordan has a wide foot and typically has a hard time with sandals because they rub and she ends up with blisters. Crocs have been the perfect sandal fix for us. But, alas, all good things must come to an end...

I used Meet the Teacher Monday night to jump start this whole shoe thing. Thankfully, J's teacher played right into it by affirming that the kids will all wear tennis shoes on Fridays but she'd like them to wear them every day because of the fun outdoor activities they'll be doing, etc. Tonight was the night, so when we picked up from school, off to the mall we went!

We decided to do shoes first and then food (Chik-Fil-A, of course!). We were talking up the whole thing and explaining that we'd eat at CFA after we got our shoes and as we were pulling into the parking place, Jordan proved to the world that we are not mall goers. "Mommy, this is the way to see Santa!!" At least the evening started with a laugh...

We got to Stride Rite and had Jordan's feet measured. She's not a wide anymore, which is nice. So, I took her over to the selection of shoes that fit her and asked her what she liked. Imagine, her first pick was a pair of sandals! Redirect to the tennis shoes...you would think that if you tell a girl that she can have any tennis shoes in the whole store that she'd be happy to make a choice! But no, not our girl! She finally agreed that I would pick out one pair for her to try on and she would pick a pair to try. Oh, we also needed socks because when you haven't needed them in 6 months, you don't buy bigger ones, so we didn't have any to bring. The first pair go on and the sales person checks for room in the toe and asks Jordan to walk around. You'd think that her feet were stuck in cement! She wouldn't move for anything. Eventually she decided she'd had enough, took the shoes and socks and put her Crocs back on. I asked the sales person if there was enough room in the toe and since she said yes and these were the only shoes our girl tried on, we bought them...and the socks, of course! I sure hope these shoes fit...I guess we will know more tomorrow!
